September
2007:
Message from Lawrence Marshall, Chair of CRAG:
"On
this 45th anniversary of the withdrawal of local passenger services on the
Edinburgh South Suburban Railway, I'd like to say "many thanks"
to all who have signed and promoted our
e-petition to the Scottish Parliament (which closed on 10/09/07 with 1923
signatures).
"My thanks to Paul Godzik for first suggesting raising an e-petition
on this issue. Also to Margaret Baxter of Prestonfield who some 6 or so weeks
ago suggested supplementing the e-petition with a paper petition - which has
now attracted an additional 650 signatures.
"Let's hope that the widespread support for the return of local trains
which this petition has demonstrated will soon be translated into action by
those in the Scottish Government and the railway industry who together can
make this return a reality.
"The time for the South Sub. to once more play its part in the life of
Scotland's capital city as a small but important component of a truly integrated
transport policy is now.
"I look forward to making the case for the South Sub. at Holyrood and
elsewhere.
"We'll post news of the continuing campaign to re-open the South Sub.
on this website.
